The Australian pianist James Maddox studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Nikolai Evrov and in Italy with Alexander Lonquich and Edoardo Strabbioli. He performs chamber music, accompanies vocal recitals and appears as soloist across Europe, in Asia and Australia. He has wide experience as an orchestral pianist, playing regularly with the Beethoven Orchester Bonn, the G\u00fcrzenich Orchester K\u00f6ln and the Bochumer Symphoniker. He feels at home at the celeste and the harpsichord and is fascinated by historical fortepianos. He has worked with composers such as Krysztof Penderecki, J\u00f6rg Widmann, Peter E\u00f6tv\u00f6s, Beat Furrer and Graeme Koehne.<\/p>\n
Chamber music partners of recent years include the violinists Ida Bieler, Christian Altenburger, Mihaela Martin, Vlad Stanculeasa and Eugenia Ottaviano, violist Matthias Buchholz, cellists Oren Shevlin, Gregor Horsch and Maria Kliegel, clarinetists Robert Oberaigner and J\u00f6rg Widmann, the Mannheimer Streichquartett, the Alinde Quartett and the Bermuda4.<\/p>\n
He has regular lieder recitals with mezzo-soprano Susanne Blattert, and soprano Ingrid Schmith\u00fcsen joins him on his double CD of Anna Magdalena Bach’s Notebook on Coviello Classics. He has recorded the Brahms Violin sonatas with Ida Bieler on Coviello.<\/p>\n
In 1995 James Maddox became tutor at the Robert-Schumann-Hochschule in D\u00fcsseldorf. In 2008 he founded the annual Brahms-Tage in Bonn-Endenich, of which he is artistic director.<\/p>\n
